Perspecitves on how to implement a human-centered approach in practice
Designing and developing AI systems in a human-centered way requires design strategies that enable decision-makers to prioritize human capabilities, needs, and values throughout AI design processes. Developing such methods means translating insights from design theory into practical tools while carefully balancing social, ethical, technical, and organizational considerations.
The book explores two approaches—Constructive Technology Assessment (CTA) and Value Sensitive Design (VSD)—and examines how their ideas can help guide human-centered AI design in practice. Drawing on insights from AI experts, it discusses the strengths and limitations of these approaches and what they can realistically contribute to the development of human-centered AI systems. It also highlights how closer collaboration between human-centered AI research and Technology Assessment can support the responsible design of future AI technologies.
The highlights of the book at a glance:
- How AI can be designed in a truly human-centered way
- What AI developers can learn from methods like CTA and VSD
- Practical insights from AI experts on how human-centered design works in real development processes
